In short, yes!  Brushing and flossing at home is essential to maintaining oral hygiene, but it is only half the battle.  At our Lubbock dentist office, we have tools specially designed to get between your teeth and below the gum line, and to clean off any plaque or tartar that may have built up on your teeth. Plus, coming in regularly helps us stay ahead of small issues before they become big issues.

When you brush your teeth, the bristles can irritate your gums.  Gum tissue is sensitive and if you are using a hard toothbrush or brushing too aggressively you can scratch and  irritate them. Our suggestion is to switch to an electric toothbrush because you can get an excellent clean without having to apply a lot of pressure. This should provide your gums with needed relief.  Bleeding gums can also be an indication that you are in need of cleaning and we recommend you make an appointment with our hygienist to properly assess the problem.  Janna would be happy to check you out and answer all your questions!
